More Butterfly Fun!

Our butterflies are starting the metamorphosis process. As you can see, three of them are in the chrysalis form in this picture. As of yesterday, four caterpillars formed the chrysalis and we are just waiting on the last little guy!

Here is an example of a student journal. As soon as our fifth caterpillar forms a chrysalis, the students will fill in the next box!

We are playing "Walk It to Know It" to learn the life cycle of the butterfly!

The students also had a chance to create their own butterfly. Check out their work below!

Michael made a Monarch butterfly.

 Emily's butterfly is pretty.

Jacob made a gold butterfly.

Butterflies!

In science we have been learning all about butterflies. The students are studying the life cycle of the butterfly, the parts of a butterfly, and they are even observing how caterpillars change into butterflies. The children are keeping journals each week of how our caterpillars change and grow. In a few weeks, once our butterflies have hatched, we will release them in the courtyard. The students are very excited about this! They are so excited about butterflies that Ms. Stancin, our art teacher, was amazed to see what the class came up with using play dough today. On their own, the class came up with the idea to make the life cycle of the butterfly using the play dough....they are so smart! Enjoy the pictures below!

Maggie's butterfly life cycle (egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, butterfly)

Michael, Anna, and Christian were inspired to invent their own bug!

Another wonderful life cycle created by some collaboration!

Sulzer Library Field Trip

We had a great time visiting the Sulzer Library today. The students loved getting their own cards, touring the library, and checking out their own books. Please remeber to return your child's book within the next two weeks!

We learned all about how to treat library books from a puppet named "Billy the Book."

The students enjoyed a story called "Library Lion."

At home, feel free to ask your child what he or she learned about library behavior on the field trip. The kindergarteneres are experts on library behavior now!
