Check It Out! Week of May 14th

This week, students get to vote on which book character will be going on vacation with Mrs. Susina this summer!  Just like Flat Stanley, this book character will be photographed in many exciting locations.

Mrs. Susina got this fun idea from one of her favorite school librarians that she follows online, Mr. Schu.  I highly recommend checking out his blog daily - I do!  Mr. Schu has taken a favorite book character friend with him on vacation for the last seven years.  You can read about it here.

Mrs. Susina and her friends will be heading west to the mountains at the end of June.  Which favorite book character will she be taking with her? You will help her decide!

Grades K-5 will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite book character this week.

Here are the choices:

Clifford the Big Red Dog

Clifford has BIG ideas, and he is a good friend.  Would he be a BIG help on hiking trip through the BIG mountains of Colorado or Wyoming?

Pete the Cat

Pete loves to just stroll along and discover new things.  And no matter where he goes, Pete never stops moving and grooving and singing his song . . . because it’s all good.

Students in grades K-3 will get to hear the new book, "Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons," by Eric Litwin and James Dean this week during library.

Olivia

Olivia likes to have fun dressing up, singing songs, building sand castles, dancing, and painting on walls, but will she enjoy sleeping in a tent?

Bad Kitty

Bad Kitty gets into all sorts of trouble.  Will she be able to behave herself on summer vacation?

The winner will be announced next week during library!  Pictures from the trip will posted to the library website over the summer, and displayed in the library next school year.

All Library Books are Due Friday, May 25th

All library books are due back to Mrs. Susina by Friday, May 25th

I need to see that all of the books have been returned before the end of the year, and send notes to the families that have missing books.  Students will not be checking out books next week.

If your child is missing a book, please check at home or check in with your child's teacher to see if it might be in the classroom.  If you have any questions or concerns, please send an email to jsusina@stbenedict.com.

Thanks for Making our Summer Book Fair a Success!

Our Summer Book Fair was a great success!  Thanks to all who attended the fair last week.

I was so pleased that the students were able to find so many great books to read this summer!  They were very excited about their purchases.

Our January Book Fair during Catholic Schools Week was a fundraiser for our 2 school libraries and our Guided Reading program.  The purpose of this BOGO fair was to get more books into the hands of St. Ben's students, and I think we accomplished that!

A special thanks to the Book Fair team: Dianne DeSantis, Adriana Fernandez, Margaret Finnigan, Patti Morrow, and Pat Pigoni.

Summer Book Fair Starts Tomorrow!

The Book Fair was delivered on Friday, and we are ready for business tomorrow!

Here are the hours for the week:

Monday, May 7th from 8:00-4:00;

Tuesday, May 8th from 8:00-3:00;

Wednesday, May 9th from 8:30-4:00; and

Thursday, May 10th from 8:30-4:00 and 5:30-8:00

The book fair is smaller this time around as it is a 4-day fair.  Some of the books from the last fair will be available, so if you missed a popular title last time, this is your chance to find it!  We also have some new titles available for purchase.  Remember, the fair is a "Buy One, Get One Free" event so your child can stock up on books for this summer!

There will also be a Summer Raffle!  For every purchase made, you will receive 1 raffle ticket.  You will put your name on the back of the ticket, and then put it in the bag of the prize that you would like to win.

We have American Girl gift sets, Captain Underpants posters, Disney's Cars book sets, and more!

I can't wait to see what titles the students pick for their summer reading!

Thank you SO much!

I wanted to thank all of the parents and students for the wonderful gifts that I received during Teacher Appreciation Week.

I was definitely well fed last week between the luncheon, food truck, and breakfast treats.

I loved the beautiful cards that the students made for me, as I always enjoy seeing what the students think I look like in illustrated form!

The chocolate treats were delicious, and I know I will have a great time doing some shopping.

You were all so sweet to think of me this past week -- thanks again!!
