Check It Out! Week of May 13th

For the next few weeks in library, the students will be talking about their favorite books with their classmates.  We LOVE to talk about books in library!

We will have more time during library class as the students will not be checking out new books in the next few weeks.  I thought this would give everyone a chance to bring in their favorite books to share with their classmates, as well as to give some great ideas for books to read over the summer.

This week, we will talk about what book talks are (for those who do not know), and give them some examples of ways to share books with others.  During the weeks of May 20 and 27, the students will bring their books to library class to share.  Students who will miss class on due to the Memorial Day holiday or field trips will share on a different day.

Each student should bring in the book of his or her choice and be able to speak about it in front of the class for 2-3 minutes.  See the back of this sheet for suggestions.  Since library class is 30 minutes, we should be able to hear from half of the class the first week and the other half the second week.

Please look for a note to come home with your child this week about when he/she will be sharing their book, and also some suggestions about what they can share.  You can also get a copy here.

Thank You!

Our students went home with LOTS of books last week thanks to the BOGO Book Fair held in the secondary school library.  They all seemed really excited by their book choices, and about continuing to read over the summer.  Thank you for stressing the importance of reading at home!

A special thank you to the parent volunteers who worked so hard this week: Diann DeSantis, Adriana Fernandez, Margaret Finnigan, and Pat Pigoni.

Due Dates for Library Books

As the school year is coming to a close, our books need to make their way back to the library.  We will need time to make sure that all books have been returned and are back on the shelves ready for next year.

Library books for kindergarten are due Friday, May 17th

Library books for grades 1-12 are due Friday, May 24th

Thank you for your help in making sure that all library books are returned or lost book fees paid.  Administration will hold the report cards of students that have outstanding fees due to the school, so please look for overdue notices from me in the coming weeks.

And the winner is...

Last week, the students voted for a book character that would go on a summer vacation trip with Mrs. Susina.

And the winners are...

Gerald and Piggie!

I am sure that Gerald and PIggie will be wonderful traveling companions this summer.

Their latest book, "Let's Go for a Drive," had them wanting to hit the road - and that is exactly what we will be doing!

Gerald and Piggie won with 129 votes.  Here is how the other book friends fared in the polls: Ivan (99 votes), Clifford (55 votes), and Babymouse (25 votes).

Be sure to watch my website over the summer for some pictures from our trip.  And like last year, I will be putting together a scrapbook for the library that the students can look at next school year.
