To celebrate poetry month, the fourth graders are working on a poetry unit in writing. Over the course of the month, the students have been reading and discussing various characteristics of poetry. They have enjoyed practicing their writing using rhyming and descriptive vocabulary to create original poems. Each student works with writing partners to edit and revise their writing, paying special attention to the “rules” of poetry. We are looking forward to sharing our published poetry books with family and friends!

Please join us on Sunday, January 29th at the 10am mass if you can. After the mass there will be an open house at the school from 11:30 to 1:00pm. Each class/grade is assigned a 20-minute time slot to present or show curriculum in the classroom (Fourth grade will showcase nonfiction convention posters/notebooks). I am looking for students to volunteer 20 minutes of their time to be a ‘host’ in our classroom, and wear dress uniforms . Our timeframe is 12:00-12:20pm.

Welcome to Ms. Poetz'z 4th Grade Classroom Web page
Hello and welcome to Room 314. My name is Loren Poetz. I was born in Chicago, but I spent the majority of my childhood growing up in Barrington. I graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a bachelor degree in Elementary Education. After graduating, I taught 8th grade social studies, and I was the Catapult teacher at St. Benedict last year. Over the summer, I taught science for the Catapult Summer Enrichment Program and traveled to Europe for the first time. On my free time, I enjoy biking around the city, spending time with my friends and family, and traveling.
Fun fact: If my family did not leave the city of Chicago to move to the suburbs, I would have attended elementary school at St. Benedict!
I hope you are enjoying your summer vacation. I look forward to meeting you and beginning a new and exciting school year together!
