PERSONAL
Marital status: Married-Lynne; Nicholas, Jacob, Courtney
Hobbies: Biking with my wife, Reading, Weight training, Sports Science Research.
A great coach once told me to make an effort to have some form of personal contact with each and every student, in every class session. I still remember the day that I received that great advice and it has helped to shape my career. I believe that all of my students can achieve and that it is my duty to help them reach their potential. I have always focused on improvement, as this allows one to focus on the individual, and also demands growth of students at all points of the ability spectrum. If you always focus on getting better you do not have to worry about anyone else's performance, only your own. Great teachers should model the importance of education. In today's world that means being a life-long learner. Several years ago I adopted the advice from an ancient Greek philosopher to, "Never stop shaping your own statue." I try to pass this along to my students and athletes.
Wrestling
Dave's career runs from the gamut of the wrestling world. He was a Junior National Champion - a four-year starter on University of Michigan Wrestling Team - Elected Captain his senior year - Espoir National Champion - 4th place in the Junior World Tournament - Big Ten champion - Runner-up in the National Freestyle Open. While at Lyons Township H.S., Dave became an assistant to a Michigan teammate, IWCOA Hall of Fame coach Mark King. Dave was involved with the Illinois Junior Greco National teams. Dave is a USA Wrestling Gold Certified Coach and has taken wrestlers to France, Bulgaria, China, Morocco, Germany, Spain, Georgia, Iran and Venezuela. Dave's experiences as a competitor, a coach and as an administrator in and around the sport of wrestling has led him delve deeply into sport science relative to wrestling. He has a website (www.inwr-wrestling.com) and over the past two decades has compiled over 2,000 articles of published scientific research on wrestling. Since 2005, Dave has published The Science of Wrestling - Annual Reviews of Wrestling Research. The hope is that this work will spark further research, along with helping to educate those who are in a position to apply this knowledge. Sharing this work with other sports scientists around the world has led to his formation of the International Network of Wrestling Researchers.
