Welcome September!

We are very busy in kindergarten this month! So far we have made new friends, played some games, read some books, learned about community helpers and established our Center Routine.

We are having fun learning all about apples and Johnny Appleseed! So far we have had an apple tasting party and graphed our favorite apples. We were surprised to find out that almost everyone liked the green apples! We are studying apple parts, the apple life cycle and learning about how apples grow. We will end our apple theme by making homemade crockpot applesauce in our class! YUM!

Apples!

Apples big,

Apples small,

Guess what?

I like them all!

WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN!

Welcome to Kindergarten! I hope you and your child are looking forward to a wonderful year!  I am very excited to meet and work with your child!

I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself. My name is Cathy Kattner.  I have always lived right here in Chicago. I am married with 2 teenage children; both are graduates of St. Benedict Prep and now attending college.

I graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a BA degree in Early Elementary Education.   I also have an additional Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have been here at St. Benedict Prep for many years and I have always taught kindergarten.

I love teaching Kindergarten! Every day, I look forward to seeing bright, happy children enter my classroom, eager to learn and have fun while learning!

Winter Fun!

We will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week starting Sunday January 30th. We will begin with Mass at 10:00 am followed by an Open House.

During the month of January we will learn about Dr. Martin Luther King and his dream for peace. We will read some stories and discuss how we in kindergarten can promote peace and be kind to others.

Our class has been busy learning about penguins and winter animals. We have read many stories and researched some facts about how animals survive during  the cold winter.

Learning in kindergarten is so much fun!
